Leigh has been auctioneering at the highest level since 1996 and indeed it is one of his true passions.

In 2005 he was awarded the NSW real estate industry’s highest honour by being awarded the John Greig medal for services to the industry and community.

He has been a finalist NSW Auctioneer Award for Excellence three times. Leigh enjoys engaging buyers and vendors at auction and has a passion to achieve the highest possible result for the agents and vendors who he represents.

Leigh been involved with countless community groups and organizations, personally raising over 5 Million Dollars for charities throughout Australia, conducting many Charity Auctions.

In 2012 Leigh Stewart thought of a project that would work toward demonstrating the University’s commitment to addressing the health and medical workforce problems in rural Australia, and especially rural NSW.

He developed a ‘formula’ scholarship fund raising event that could be replicated in rural NSW communities around the longstanding race day events held in these communities

To identify and engage ‘rural partners’ in the implementation of the race day events – the preferred partners are those that exist in all or most of the target communities and include: Farmer’s Association, Country Women’s Association, Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs and Council

Th  The goal was to ultimately have up to 40 NSW rural communities have a Health & Medical Race Day devoted to raising funds for scholarships for students from the community

The 40 target communities are located in five general NSW regions: Broken Hill/Menindee/Wilcannia; Griffith/Leeton/Narrandera; Bomaderry/Nowra/Shoalhaven Heads/Milton/Ulladulla/Sanctuary Point; Bowral/Mittagong/Moss Vale.

On 9th and 10th of December 2012, 18 medical students conducted over 400 health checks for the Mudgee community. Country music superstar Adam Harvey preformed on the Thursday evening prior to 6000 people attending the annual Mudgee Cup and raising almost $20,000 for health scholarships. A great community engagement exercise as well as supporting Mudgee young adults to pursue a career in health.

Over the past three years the University of Wollongong (UOW) has been working hand in hand with the local community to secure the region’s first Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health Research. This appointment is an incredible win for the Illawarra and Shoalhaven, thanks to the ongoing support of our local Clubs and many business leaders in the community.

UK-trained Professor Ian Wright, an internationally regarded medical researcher and neonatal specialist, took up his appointment with UOW’s Graduate School of Medicine (GSM), the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI) and the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) on 1 July 2013, and is now playing a leading role in paediatric care in the region.

It is our pleasure to announce Ian’s role (Professor of Paediatrics) has now received core funding at the University. Ian has and will be working closely with Dr Susie Piper and her team at Wollongong, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven Hospitals caring for our sick children. He also is now an integral part of the teaching program at UOW Wollongong and Shoalhaven Campuses teaching high level paediatric care to 320 young future doctors.

This is a team effort and although our goal of a Professor of Paediatrics is now a secured position, I still urge this fantastic community to continue to support Ian and Susie financially to achieve world class health care for our children.

I, Professor Jones, would also like to take this opportunity to personally thank Leigh Stewart and Susan Wallis for their dedication on this project. This announcement has also given Leigh the opportunity to work on other goals within our community and indeed on a State and National level. I wish him well in all future endeavours.
